LANSING — Following weeks of bipartisan negotiations, the House passed a sweeping overhaul of Michigan’s auto insurance system today. The bill includes several important provisions for Michigan drivers including, greater oversight of rates by the Department of Insurance and Financial Services, guaranteed rate reductions on PIP coverage, and increased consumer protections. In response, state Rep. Terry Sabo (D-Muskegon) issued the following statement:

“This deal has been a long time in the making and I’m pleased that we were able to come to a bipartisan agreement to preserve quality coverage for Michigan drivers while guaranteeing lower rates. While I am not in total agreement with the final product, the reform is a result of a negotiations that had all parties at the table. This shows the good we are able to do for our communities when we work together across the aisle and I’m hopeful that this cooperation will continue.”
